Sunset at Delicate Arch

Delicate Arch is 20 meter tall, freestanding arch located in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. Figure of the arch is the most widely recognized landmark in the National Park and also depicted on Utah License Plates. We hiked two miles up to Delicate Arch few hours before sunset. Hike was not too bad - easy path with clear markings. Only problem was temperature. We saw lots of tourists with no water coming down. Place was crawling of people, it took maybe 20 minutes to finally get a decent shot without any people. Nicest moment of the evening - a proposal made under the arch. Few hundred people were apploding the happy couple :) Taken July 2012.

Sunrise At The Gooseneck

The Neck, Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah, USA. View towards The Gooseneck of Colorado River moments after sunrise. Even though I have visited Dead Horse Point multiple times, it has always been in the evening. This time I decided I would try to visit the place in the early morning hours and I'm glad I did it! Compared to dozens of photographers swarming at Mesa Arch I saw only 2 other photographers.

Sunrise At The Mesa Arch

"I Have A Bad Hunch About This", I told myself when I arrived to my hotel previous night. Minibus with "X X World Famous Photography Workshops" -text on the sides? Yup, these guys are planning to go shoot Mesa Arch at the sunrise. Huch turned even worse when I drove off the hotel parking lot 3,5 hours before the sunset and I saw bus already gone. The reality hit me when I arrived to the Mesa Arch way over 2 hours before sunset; 16 "students" had already selected the best places. Luckily I was able to squeeze in to the last spot at the first row and I think this shot is actually quite good. It's funny to see how much few months can really affect to the location of the sun. Early June sun rises from the other side of La Sal Mountains, and I would assume November-December one cannot even see the sun from this end of "the photo row"

Sunset at The Watchman

The Watchman, Zion NP, Utah, USA. Zion Canyon is a 24 km long, up to 800 metres deep canyon that runs along the north fork of the Virgin River. Discovered in late 1800s, mormons gave the place a biblical name as “great mountains are natural temples of God”. Biblical names are present not only on the name of the canyon but also on the actual mountains. The Watchman standing 2000m high is one of the most recognized features of the National Park. This late autumn shot was taken shortly before sunset in October 2015.

Serenity

Observation Point, sitting 2300 feet above Zion Canyon floor, is the highest vantage point of the canyon. Most people spend good half a day hiking a strenuous 8-mile roundtrip from the canyon floor all the way to the top. There are also some other routes which come handy if you want to see sunrise or sunset during mandatory shuttle season. Staying close to the eastern border of the National Park, we were able to hike mostly flat surface to the point. Being able to leave on our own pace, we enjoyed a beautiful but cloudy sunset alone with nothing but few California Condors hovering above our heads. Taken October 2018.
