Sunset at Page, Arizona

Another classical view of the Southwest, this time from Page, Arizona. Colorado River, running 2330km from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California, cuts through the wasteland in five US states before reaching Mexico. For millions of years, river has carved its way through the soil, creating deep canyons and rapids on it’s way to the ocean. Horseshoe Bend, located outskirts of the town of Page, Arizona. Here steep rock walls drop down to the river located over 300 metres below. While not as deep, wide or popular as Grand Canyon located downstream, this location is just as beautiful as its iconic big brother. Taken June 2014.

Wotan's Throne at Sunset

There's nothing more magnificent than to watch sun set behind the horizon at a far-away location. The North Rim of Grand Canyon is a perfect example of such a place; Cape Royal is 30 miles from the National Park Boundaries and closest ranger station and over 60 miles from the closest village. Looking down at the vast emptiness and listening to the roaming Colorado River when sun goes to sleep makes one really appreciate beautiful nature around you!

Wotan's Throne Under Milky Way

Wotan's Throne, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, USA. Wotan's Throne is a huge flat-top butte standing in the middle of The Grand Canyon. To get to see this magnificent view, one has to drive first all the way to Grand Canyon North Rim (over 200 miles from Flagstaff, AZ. After reaching the park boundaries, you need to drive a winding road for over 30 miles before you reach the furthest point on the North Rim. Long drive means solitude; I was basically alone at the spot and able to enjoy this awesome view all by myself. This is a capture of 3 shots; the throne was shot just after sunset, red horizon is approximately 30 minutes after sunset and milky way 2 hours after the sunset. For my first try of merging shots, I'm quite happy with the end result. What do you think?

Wotan's Throne at Sunrise

Driving 140 miles (225km) small, winding road to get 3 pictures of the same butte ... Totally worth it! After long night at Cape Royal and few hours sleep I drove all the way back to the same location to see walls of the butte turn into golden hue. Single shot with ND filter above horizon.

Catalina Sunset

Majestic Santa Catalina Mountains are located just outside the city of Tucson, Arizona. With the highest point of near 2700m (over 9100 feet), mountains receive over 4 meters of snow annually. We visited Catalina State Park in mid-July. With daily temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius snowy mountain tops were not visible. What we saw while hiking was lots of Saguaro Cacti. With lifespan of over 150 years, highest Saguaros can reach over 12 meters in height. Taken July 2019. 13 picture panorama.
